The Bottle
1:The Adventure
Laura went into the kitchen for a drink after the long drive. Her mum had brought that horrible drink. She said it was a new tastier version of the iced coffee and she wanted to try it.
Laura was a young girl the age of twelve with fair, straight hair. She was on a trip in the car with nothing to drink apart from that green tea that her mum had brought. She was a natural leader in any group.
“Laura Wilkerson, Hurry up!” Phil and Jessica shouted. “We haven’t all day.”
Phil was a young boy of eight who was Laura’s brother. He had short hair that stuck out of his head in a swirling motion. Jessica, who was nine, was like Laura but a younger version of her with shorter hair.
“Yes I know.” Laura said impatiently. She quickly poured her bottles substance down the drain and filled it up with tap water. Then, she went back outside to meet Dean and Catherine, her cousins.
Dean was ten years old with short dark brown hair that curled slightly. Most of the time he wore a hat because he didn’t like his hair. Catherine was eleven years old with light brown hair, longer than Laura’s. Catherine's hair, like Dean's, crled at the end. which was wavy. She was a great friend with Laura, though they didn't meet often.
“Hey, Laura!” Catherine said. “Do you want to go to my bedroom? We’ve got lots of games. We could have a pillow fight!”
Laura followed her upstairs into a room with scarlet wallpaper. An orange bed with matching pillows were in the far left corner. Right to that were a wooden set of drawers. In the far right of the room was a glass cabinet. Within were any bottles of different shapes and sizes. Wooden boards surrounded it, incase playing got rough, which in this case, did.
“Wow! You've really improved your bedroom. I especially like your bottle collection.”
“Thanks. It’s not much.”
“Not much? It’s brilliant! Well at lest it’s better than mine.”
The five children had a pillow fight. Dean accidently knocked Laura to the wall. She put her hands out to prevent her getting hurt.
“Maybe I should sit this round out.” Laura said.
“Ahhhh. Has Laura chickened out?” Dean mocked.
“Of course not!” Laura snapped.
Dean turned away pretending to examine a pillow like it was a fascinating portrait. Laura noticed a bottle which looked particularly interesting. She picked it up and rubbed her hand on the smooth surface. It was cold like it had just been taken out of a fridge. It had a green body with no scratched or carvings. The stopper was made was made of pure white glass which, again, had no scratches or carving like it had been kept in a velvet box all the time. Within was a misty liquid swirling to it's own content at the bottom. On top was a colourless liquid, more transparent tan water with miniscule blobs of white falling from no where. This was hardly noticable.
“The sea gave that to me.” Catherine said from behind her.
“From the sea? How can the sea give this to you?” Laura asked her.
“Well, one day I was playing on the beach. I was making a sand castle. I went to get some water to put in the ditch and as soon as my toes touched to sea, this bottle came bobbing towards me.” Catherine replied. "It's beautiful, isn't it?"
Laura nodded. “Have you ever opened it?” Laura asked her.
“I’ve never dared to open it in case something bad happens.” she whispered going slightly red with embarrassment.
“But you’ll never know if something good happens either.”
“Well, that’s true.”
“Should I open it then?”
They wondered for a while until Jessica came along.
“What are you two doing with that filthy bottle?” she said with disgust.
“It’s not filthy!” Laura cried.
“We’re wondering whether to open this or not” Catherine said.
“Well it’s a stupid bottle isn’t it, so let’s open it.
Dean agreed to open it, but Phil wasn’t so sure. Neither was Catherine. Laura could see both sides of the argument and she didn't know which to follow. In the end they opened the bottle. That was when the adventure started.
